About East Street Kitchen

Growing up, I could often be found in the kitchen watching my mother cook. She’s a natural, effortless chef; the kind of person who can open a nearly empty fridge and somehow conjure an elegant meal within 45 minutes. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of watching her work her magic in the kitchen of the house on East Street where we lived.

One constant fixture in her kitchen was her own secret ingredient: an all-purpose seasoning blend with a carefully guarded recipe. We used it on everything. Roasts, soups, pasta dishes, and vegetables were elevated with just a pinch of this magic stuff. At holidays, Mom would package up jars to give as presents to friends, family, and neighbors, and we would laugh as the requests for refills came in like clockwork weeks later. 

As time has passed, this seasoning blend has become a staple of my own kitchen counter. In my house we simply call it “Gammie’s salt,” and it is the secret ingredient I use for everything from introducing my kids to new foods to creating a memorable dinner party. 

The East Street Kitchen was founded in 2021 with the goal of sharing this cherished family recipe with home cooks everywhere. I hope this All-Purpose Seasoning, straight from my own kitchen, will become the secret ingredient in yours too.

Lauren Guthrie grew up in Massachusetts, where she developed a love of cooking by following her mother around the kitchen. In addition to founding The East Street Kitchen, her professional background includes a Master’s in Public Health, and 15 years of experience in public health and clinical research with a focus on the effects of nutrition on health. She lives with her family outside of Boston and can think of nothing better than a home cooked meal shared with the people she loves.
